Who Is Eamonn Holmes?

 

He, a journalist and broadcaster from Northern Ireland, was born on 3 December 1959. Prior to hosting Sunrise (2005–2016) for Sky News, he co-hosted the breakfast program GMTV (1993–2005) for ITV. With his wife Ruth Holmes, Holmes co-hosted ITV’s This Morning from 2006 to 2021 on Fridays only during the summer. He began working with GB News in January 2022 to co-host their breakfast program with Isabel Webster. Additionally, he presented It’s Not Me, It’s You (2016) and How the Other Half Lives (2015–2019) for Channel 5.

In the 2018 New Year’s Honours, Holmes was named an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) for his contributions to broadcasting. He supports a wide range of organizations and causes, such as the Northern Ireland Kidney Patients’ Association, Variety GB, and Dogs Trust.

Holmes is a Manchester United supporter. He began the eulogies during George Best’s burial in Northern Ireland in December 2005.

Dogs Trust has Holmes and Langsford as supporters. Then in 2011, the couple obtained their dog, Maggie, from the nonprofit. The couple contributed to the Alzheimer’s Society’s Dementia Friends campaign in 2014.

Holmes started serving as a celebrity ambassador for Variety GB in April 2015. He joined the Northern Ireland Kidney Patients’ Association as a patron in January 2016. He and Langsford started supporting The Amy May Trust in March 2020.

Holmes stated that he tested positive for COVID-19 on October 26, 2021, but that because of his complete vaccination history, he didn’t become seriously ill.

Eamonn Holmes fell at home in October 2022 and was injured. He said the broken bone was “sticking out of his shoulder” as a result of this. He was instructed to take a four-month hiatus from his job as a broadcaster on GB News’ breakfast program. In February 2023, he started working again for GB News.

Holmes went to Holy Family Primary School and St Malachy’s College, in Belfast.

In 2006, He was awarded an honorary degree by Queen’s University Belfast. He has also received an honorary degree from the University of Staffordshire.

In 1985, He married his first wife, Gabrielle Holmes, with whom he has three children, Declan, Rebecca, and Niall. They separated in 1994, due to Holmes’ father’s death and journalism career taking a toll on their marriage.

On 26 June 2010, Holmes married Ruth Langsford at Elvetham Hall, near Hartley Wintney, Hampshire. In 2002, they had a son Jack.
