In Huber Heights, Ohio, an unusual incident unfolded when a person, who had reportedly attempted to evade authorities during a traffic stop, was eventually discovered hiding in a garbage can. This quirky turn of events was shared by the Huber Heights Police Division on their social media channels on February 23, detailing the day’s earlier events.

According to the police report, the individual tried to escape on foot, leaving the officer momentarily unable to track their whereabouts. This prompted law enforcement to establish a perimeter in an effort to locate the runaway suspect.

The story took a bizarre twist when a garbage collector, during routine duties, stumbled upon the suspect concealed within a trash receptacle. The police humorously referred to the individual as “Oscar the Grouch,” drawing a parallel to the famous Sesame Street character known for his dwelling in a trash can.

A memorable moment was captured as the suspect was seen peering out from the garbage can, only to make another futile attempt to flee by exiting and running once more.

The suspect is seen peeking out of the trash can after the garbage collector found them, exiting the trash can and running.

Police said the individual was caught and taken into custody.

“Thanks to the impressive athletic ability and swift response of our very own Officer Perez, the suspect was safely apprehended,” said police.

Kevyn Vasquez, district manager of Rumpke, provided a statement on the situation.

Our employees go through safety training that teaches them to be aware of their surroundings while servicing our communities. Safety is our top priority, and there is always going to be an unexpected situation that comes about. We can now take this scenario, look back on it, and have a conversation with our employees about how to handle something like this.

It is a dangerous situation for all parties involved, and we are thankful for the hardworking men and women of the Huber Heights law enforcement.”
