Chelsea are one of just seven clubs willing to trigger the release clause of Borussia Dortmund sharpshooter Serhou Guirassy this summer, a report in Germany has revealed.

The 29-year-old has thrived during his debut season at Signal Iduna Park, racking up 29 goals in 41 appearances for BVB, including a recent hat-trick against Barcelona in the Champions League quarter-finals.

Having blossomed at Stuttgart during the previous two campaigns, Guirassy now has several high-scoring seasons under his belt and has naturally attracted attention from other clubs on the continent – most notably the Premier League’s prolific spenders Chelsea.

The Blues, who have been linked to the Guinea international in past transfer windows, have been named as one of the select group capable of triggering Guirassy’s release clause – thought to be approximately €70m (£60m) – after this summer’s revamped FIFA Club World Cup. However, they are not alone.

According to Sky Sport Germany journalist Patrick Berger, Chelsea are one of five Premier League sides in a position to trigger the clause alongside Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester City and Manchester United, while Spanish giants Barcelona and Real Madrid are also a threat. Whether any of the aforementioned sides make that move remains to be seen.

Berger has reassured Dortmund supporters that Guirassy currently has “no plans” to leave the club and with his contract running until 2028, the Bundesliga behemoths are in no rush to sell their star striker.

Dortmund are said to be “very happy” with Guirassy and view him as integral to their “rebuild” following a difficult campaign. The German outfit are in the unfamiliar depths of seventh and have just four games to make up the four-point gap to RB Leipzig in the division’s all-important top four.
