Few kits in football history are as instantly recognisable as Peru’s 1978 World Cup jersey – a crisp white canvas slashed with that bold, diagonal red sash. Though the team didn’t make it past the group stage that year, the look became an icon.

Now, adidas is reviving that legendary design as part of its ongoing “Bring Back” retro series – and it’s a beauty.

Following their recent drops celebrating Argentina’s 50th anniversary kit and Colombia’s centenary, adidas now turns the spotlight on La Blanquirroja.

The capsule, titled “Bring Back del 78”, revives the long-sleeved version of Peru’s ’78 jersey in faithful detail: the sash is sharp, the silhouette clean and the adidas Originals trefoil logo proudly sits on the chest — a nod to the era it came from.

The release doesn’t stop at the shirt. Also included are matching red track tops and bottoms, each lined with adidas’ signature three stripes and featuring Peru’s retro crest – elevating the look into a full heritage-inspired fit.

To celebrate the launch, adidas brought legends and rising stars together. 1978 heroes like Héctor Chumpitaz and Teófilo Cubillas join forces with current national figures – Paolo Guerrero, Mafer Reyes, Flavia Montes, Ian Wisdom, and Fabiola Herrera – in a symbolic celebration of Peruvian football’s enduring legacy.

It’s more than a jersey – it’s a bridge across generations, a wearable piece of history and a sharp-looking tribute to La Blanquirroja’s past.

The “Bring Back del 78” collection is available now at prodirectsport.com.
