The women’s football calendar finally resumed over the weekend following the winter break as the fourth round of this season’s FA Cup got underway.

However, a number of teams were forced to spend another week out of action as freezing cold and adverse weather conditions resulted in a number of postponements across the country.

Just nine of the scheduled 16 fourth round games actually took place, with the remaining seven pushed back until later in the month.

WSL teams Chelsea, Manchester United, Manchester City and Aston Villa were all in action and booked their place in the fifth round. Chelsea comfortably beat Charlton Athletic 4-0, while United eventually put seven goals past National League side West Bromwich Albion at Leigh Sports Village.

Elsewhere, London City Lionesses secured a 5-0 triumph over Fulham, the lowest ranked team left in the competition, and Newcastle United edged a narrow 1-0 win over Nottingham Forest to secure their place in the next round. The fifth round draw will take place at Wembley Stadium on Monday evening and is set to get underway at around 6:30pm. Those ties will be scheudled for February.

The games that suffered postponement include Liverpool’s visit to West Ham, with the pitch at the Chigwell Construction Stadium deemed to be frozen. Leicester City were set to face Stoke City at Notts County’s Meadow Lane, but a pitch inspection on Saturday afternoon determined the freezing weather conditions had made the surface unplayable.

Tottenham Hotspur were also due to face Everton at Walton Hall Park on Sunday but that was also postponed due to a frozen pitch. Arsenal’s meeting with Bristol City at Meadow Park was among those pushed back too.
