Jude Bellingham has been advised to stay in Germany and ignore Premier League interest for now, by Everton’s Andros Townsend.

Bellingham has been stunning for Borussia Dortmund and has already established himself as one of their leaders, despite still only being 19.

That form has translated to the England team and he starred in the 6-2 victory over Iran at the World Cup, scoring his first goal for Gareth Southgate’s side.

Bellingham joined Dortmund from Birmingham City in 2020 and opted for a move to Germany over a switch to the Premier League, with Manchester United among his many suitors.

That has proved brilliant for his development and links persist over a return to English football.

There are plenty of teams who want him with Liverpool and Man City considered the favourites of English clubs, with Dortmund reportedly putting a valuation of £130million on him and that could yet increase.

But Everton winger Townsend reckons Bellingham might be better of staying where he is for now, warning a huge transfer at this stage could lead to unsettling scrutiny, like Paul Pogba and Jack Grealish have faced.

He told talkSPORT Breakfast: “I’d say stay there a bit longer. If he comes to the Premier League then he will be £150m and will have a similar effect to Paul Pogba.

“Bellingham scores goals but his main threat is not scoring goals.

“If he comes to the Premier League for £150m the media and everyone is going to be expecting him to score goals and when he doesn’t do that, even if he is playing well, they are going to be on his backs, and we will have a Jack Grealish situation.

“For me, stay in Germany and keep doing what you are doing and then maybe come back.”
