Liverpool manager Arne Slot has confirmed Trent Alexander-Arnold will miss Thursday’s Carabao Cup semi-final second leg against Tottenham Hotspur through injury.

The right-back pulled up during the 2-0 win over Bournemouth at the weekend and immediately sparked concern among fans, but scans on the injury are believed to have alleviated any fears of a significant issue.

Indeed, reports suggest Alexander-Arnold is facing a matter of “days rather than weeks” on the sidelines, and Slot echoed that stance on Wednesday.

“He is going to miss the game tomorrow and we have to see if he is able to play on Sunday,” Slot said. “But what we do know is that he is not available for tomorrow.

“I think you saw that he left the pitch with a bit of a pain in his leg, so that’s why he misses the game tomorrow. But he is already on the pitch, not with the team but with the rehab coach, so let’s see how long it is going to take. But he will not be available tomorrow.”

Liverpool face Plymouth Argyle in the FA Cup fourth round on Sunday and it appears unlikely that Alexander-Arnold will be risked for that game, with Conor Bradley the likely stand-in at right-back. Alexander-Arnold’s return could come the following week, with Liverpool braced for Merseyside derby action against Everton.

Slot’s side find themselves 1-0 down on aggregate after Tottenham’s surprise victory in the first leg in January, but Liverpool are overwhelming favourites to overturn that deficit at Anfield on Thursday.
