Defending champion and former world no. 1 Novak Djokovic made an impressive start to his title defence at the 2022 Paris Masters as he defeated Maxime Cressy in the second round to make it 10 straight wins in competitive tennis. The score at the end of the match was 7-6(1), 6-4 in favour of the Serbian who scored four aces and returned one out of five break points. “It was very intense, just a lot of pressure,” he said post-match. “When you play someone that serves this well — first and second serve — you don’t have much room to relax and maybe play kind of a softer few games. You just have to be on your toes all the time. Credit to him for serving big in some big moments. I had my chances [in the] first set to break him, second as well,” the former world no. 1 said.

Russian tennis player Karen Khachanov will be Djokovic’s opponent in the third round of play of the ATP 500 tournament in Paris. Khachanov beat Marc-Andrea Huesler 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 in the round of 32 after scoring 10 aces and returning all three out of three break points. The Russian has faced Djokovic eight times in his career but has only been able to win once.
