Aussie sporting legend Kyle Chalmers has become a father following the birth of his first child with fiancée and fellow swimmer Ingeborg Løyning.

Astrid Olivia Chalmers entered the world on Thursday morning.

The doting new father and nine-time Olympic medallist took to Instagram on Friday night to share a photo of the couple posing with their newborn in hospital.

‘Astrid Olivia. Born 8:38am on the 28th of the 8th 2025. We are obsessed with you,’ the post was captioned.

Norwegian Olympian Løyning, 24, explained the meaning of Astrid’s name in a separate Instagram post.

‘Meaning: divinely beautiful; beloved of the gods,’ the post read.

‘Highly used in Scandinavian countries, Astrid is a powerful feminine name ideal for those with a love for lore and ancient mystique.

‘Originally rendered Ástríðr in Old Norse, Astrid is often translated as ‘divinely beautiful’. No doubt flattering, the pleasure of Astrid is its openness to complementary interpretation.

‘Astrid is on undeniably gorgeous soul certain to be adored by those that matter most in baby’s little world.’

Chalmers’ post was quickly inundated with almost 15,000 likes and hundreds of comments from well-wishers.

Many messages were from past and present Australian swimming stars.

‘Over the moon for you both!! Astrid is so lucky to have you both as parents. Congratulations again,’ Shayna Jack wrote.

Four-time Olympic gold medallist Ariarne Titmus added: ‘She is so so beautiful, you should be so proud,’

Mother-of-five Libby Tricket commented: ‘Congratulations! Little girls are just wonderful.’

The couple, who have been together since 2022, announced they were expecting a baby girl back in March.

The exciting news comes after Kyle Chalmers competed at the world championships in Singapore earlier this month

The exciting news comes after Kyle Chalmers competed at the world championships in Singapore earlier this month

‘We can’t wait to welcome our little Norwegian princess into the world later this year,’ Løyning posted at the time.

A few weeks ago, Chalmers posted a photo with his fiancée boasting a very advanced baby bump.

‘See you soon,’ Chalmers posted with a picture looking lovingly at his partner.

Chalmers was just 18 when he burst onto the world stage at the 2016 Rio Olympics to win gold in the men’s 100m freestyle.

That victory made him the first Australian to claim the event since 1968, instantly cementing his status as a rising star.

He added a silver medal in the 4x100m freestyle relay and a bronze in the 4x100m medley relay at the same Games.

Chalmers faced a major setback in 2017 when heart surgery forced him out of the World Championships.

At the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, he narrowly missed defending his 100m freestyle title, taking silver behind American Caeleb Dressel in a thrilling final.

Chalmers added to his legacy at the Paris 2024 Olympics by winning a silver medal in the men’s 100 metre freestyle, – his third consecutive Olympic medal in that event.

He also swam a blistering 46.59-second anchor leg in the men’s 4×100 m freestyle relay, helping the Australian team secure silver with a finishing time of 3:10.35.

Chalmers added his medal collection at the world championships in Singapore earlier this month with bronze in the 100m freestyle.
