Birmingham City have given fans a first look at what their replacement for St. Andrew’s could look like, unveiling concept footage of a cutting-edge stadium set to open by the 2029/30 season.

The Championship side, whose spiritual home has stood since 1906, is planning a ground that could cost up to £3bn.

The proposed design would boost capacity from 29,409 to a staggering 62,000, making it the eighth-largest stadium in England – slightly larger than Anfield (61,276) and just 850 seats shy of Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Footage released by the club shows a futuristic, “spaceship”-inspired exterior in the club’s signature blue, with the word “BLUES” featured prominently around the wrap. Fans can also expect generous green spaces around the stadium and rooftop areas designed for pre-match relaxation.

Nick Smith, Birmingham City’s Head of Infrastructure, offered an update on the potential designs, adding that the stadium will also be equipped to host large-scale, non-football events.

He stressed, however, that the final design remains “subject to change.”

While the visuals are impressive, Birmingham are keeping their focus on the pitch first – they’ll need to be back in the big time to fill the stands when this futuristic new home eventually opens. Otherwise, all the rooftop bars and green spaces in the world won’t stop those seats from feeling a little empty.
