Brendan Rodgers has been tipped to succeed Antonio Conte at Tottenham in the summer – regardless of whether he sends Leicester down.

The north Londoners parted ways with the Italian on Sunday night, with Cristian Stellini taking over as head coach for the remainder of the season.

talkSPORT understands that Spurs will draw up a three-man shortlist in the near future, with Julian Nagelsmann and Luis Enrique two possible options.

Meanwhile it remains to be seen if former manager Mauricio Pochettino will return to the club following his sacking in November 2019.

But talkSPORT pundits Ally McCoist and Stuart Pearce have backed Rodgers to be a worthy replacement for Conte, despite his Foxes languishing in 17th spot in the Premier League table.

The Midlands outfit have endured a nightmare season where they sit just two points above Southampton in 20th and are in real danger of relegation.

But their disastrous campaign hasn’t done Rodgers any harm in the eyes of ex-Rangers striker McCoist and England legend Pearce.

Speaking on the Sports Breakfast Show, host Alan Brazil said: “I’d have said a few months ago that Brendan Rodgers would have a chance at Tottenham, but you look at the table now…

“I’m not saying Brendan has changed and become a bad manager overnight, but would you take a chance on someone like Brendan when his Leicester team are fourth from bottom?”

To which McCoist replied: “I think Brendan would do an excellent job.

“Apart from this season, you look at Brendan’s record and it’s been fantastic. He’s been great.”

And Pearce has echoed his colleague’s view during his appearance on White and Jordan.

He remarked: “If I took Brendan in isolation and I was a chairman, on what I’ve seen from him continually over a long period of time, I would employ him straight away.

“I would be waiting to see whether he fell out of work if I was another club in the Premier League to take him to my club.”

Pressed by Jim White even if he had relegation on his CV, Pearce simply stated: “100 per cent, yeah.”

Reflecting on his time at Liverpool and Celtic, he added: “Bear in mind, he was close to winning the title with Liverpool.

“He’s won trophies north of the border, continually he’s played a brand of football that’s been very good.

“I think he ticks a lot of boxes.”

Leicester’s last win in the Premier League came on February 11, where his side thrashed Tottenham 4-1 at the King Power Stadium.
