Tottenham Hotspur centre-back Cristian Romero appeared to hit out at the club’s preparations for Sunday’s defeat to Arsenal in a post shared on social media.

Romero played 90 minutes in the hard-fought game, which Spurs appeared to dominate on the stats sheet but came up short in the eye test, but was unable to prevent Gabriel’s second-half header from gifting Arsenal all three points.

After the game, Romero was spotted sharing a post on X, formerly Twitter, by Argentine journalist Gaston Edul, which questioned Tottenham’s preparations for the game.

“Tottenham lost to Arsenal again,” the post began. “It did not come down to fight but the details: It was the only Premier League club that brought its players back from their national teams on their own and without plans from the club, as decided by those in charge.

“That gave Arsenal an advantage because their players arrived with less rest than the opponents. Cuti Romero played with a fever.”

Romero has since removed his interaction with the post.

Tottenham’s decision not to organise their own travel for players was not unique to this international break and they are under no obligation to do so, but many clubs arrange private transport for their players to get them back in training as soon as possible.
