Cristiano Ronaldo will not train with his Portugal team-mates on Wednesday due to suffering from a ‘stomach bug’.

The 37-year-old missed Manchester United’s last two matches against Aston Villa and Fulham due to an unspecified illness.

He has since been seen training with the Portugal squad ahead of the World Cup, but he has been forced to sit out Wednesday’s session in Lisbon, according to Sky Sports News.

Ronaldo has hit the headlines in recent days after taking part in a bombshell interview with Piers Morgan, and more revelations are expected when the first part of the interview airs on TalkTV on Wednesday night.

Snippets of the interview have already been released to the public, which show Ronaldo revealing that he has ‘no respect’ for United manager Erik Ten Hag as he feels disrespected by the Dutch coach, while also claiming that some people at United have been trying to force him out of the club.

Ronaldo has also claimed that he did not know who former interim boss Ralf Rangnick was before he turned up at Old Trafford last season.

The five-time Ballon d’Or has used the interview to hit out at United’s owners, the Glazer’s, accusing them of treating the Red Devils as a ‘marketing club’ rather than focusing on being successful on the pitch.

Furthermore, he admitted his disappointment at criticism from former team-mates Wayne Rooney and Gary Neville, and suggested the latter has been using his name to increase his popularity in the media.

Morgan has teased that there is plenty more to come from Ronaldo when the full interview is aired on Wednesday and Thursday.

The TV presenter has confirmed that Ronaldo does speak about his great rival Lionel Messi in their interview, and he expects Ronaldo’s comments on the Argentine to create ‘huge headlines’.

Portugal’s first match at the World Cup is still over a week away, with Fernando Santos’s side due to take on Ghana on November 24.

There is no indication at this stage that Ronaldo’s illness could make him a doubt for that clash.
