Wolves’ move for former Chelsea star Diego Costa is in doubt after his application for a work permit was rejected.
Bruno Lage’s side turned to the veteran Spain international in order to solve their current striker crisis.
£15million summer signing Sasa Kalajdzic suffered an ACL injury on his debut, while Raul Jimenez was withdrawn from the starting XI to face Southampton due to another setback.
Costa, 33, is due to to arrive in the Midlands on Tuesday to undergo a medical and has agreed a one-year contract.
However, Costa’s initial application for a work permit to return to play in the Premier League has been turned down by the Home Office.
The decision is due to his age and lack of recent international appearances for Spain.
Wolves are still working to sign Costa and hope to get the decision overturned.
The club does not to expect to learn until Wednesday if their appeal has been successful.
Costa scored 52 Premier League goals in 89 games for Chelsea, winning two Premier League titles.
He then spent four seasons at Atletico Madrid, before a brief stint at Atletico Mineiro and is now a free agent.
Costa, who switched allegiance from Brazil, also has 24 appearances for Spain but the last of those came in 2018.
