Draper hadn’t played a competitive match since losing to Karen Khachanov in the third round of the US Open, which was the last time he had set foot on the court. Draper, 20, will be fired up to go again as he looks to continue his rapid journey up the rankings list after having his first successful season at the highest level. After all, Draper, who was formerly ranked 265th in the world this season, is now among the top 50 thanks to his four Challenger circuit championship wins, a semifinal appearance at the Eastbourne International, and a second quarterfinal appearance in Montreal.

Despite only being 21 years old, Brooksby has already demonstrated his potential this season, rising to 33rd in the world before settling in at 42nd. The American entered this tournament coming off a shocking three-set loss to Mackenzie McDonald in the first round of the Florence Open after reaching the semifinals of the Korea Open earlier this month. Brooksby had just advanced to the third round at the US Open, thus this defeat was out of character.
