England manager Thomas Tuchel has handed a belated call-up to Nottingham Forest midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White.

Gibbs-White was unfortunate to miss out on a spot in Tuchel’s initial squad, with many fans questioning how the 25-year-old, who has five goals and seven assists for a high-flying Forest side this season, was omitted.

However, it hasn’t taken long for Tuchel to appease those critics, with England confirming Gibbs-White has been added to his first squad ahead of the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Albania and Latvia.

Gibbs-White is expected to take the place of Chelsea midfielder Cole Palmer, who missed the Blues’ 1-0 defeat to Arsenal on Sunday with an injury which manager Enzo Maresca predicted would force him to withdraw from international duty.

Several Forest stars took to social media to give their verdict on Gibbs-White’s call-up.

“Only right!” was Anthony Elanga’s response, while Neco Williams added: “About time.”

Harry Toffolo concluded: “Rightly so.”

Gibbs-White has two England caps to his name after making his debut in September 2024 under interim boss Lee Carsley. The pair won the 2023 Under-21 European Championships, with Gibbs-White scoring once and assisting twice on a run which saw him sent off in the final.

He grabbed his first senior assist in November, setting up Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones in a 3-0 win over Greece, and will hope to add to his tally in the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Albania and Latvia.
