Cristiano Ronaldo will stay at Manchester United this season as they have received no substantive offers from Champions League clubs.

The Portugal superstar has made clear his desire to leave Old Trafford before the transfer window, but his time is running out to secure a move.

With the window slamming shut on Thursday, and with no offers on the table, it looks as though he will have to put up with being at United for a bit longer.

Erik ten Hag has always insisted he wants to keep Ronaldo at the club and he confirmed on Wednesday that he will remain.

Speaking at his press conference, Ten Hag said: “It’s clear, of course. We need quality players. You need more and to cover all the games to keep the consistency going, that’s what we strive for.”

The Athletic report the Red Devils have not received any substantial approaches from clubs who can offer Champions League football.

This has been the driving force behind his desire to leave as he faces playing outside Europe’s elite competition for the first time in his career.

The only formal approach United have received is from Saudi Arabia side Al Hilal, and their proposal has been described as ‘obscene’.

The report also adds that there has been a change in Ronaldo’s demeanour around the club’s training ground, perhaps hinting about an acceptance of his current situation.

The Red Devils have been splashing the cash in the transfer market, topping around £225m.

They brought in his former Real Madrid teammate Casemiro for £70m and on Tuesday they confirmed the £84.8m transfer of Antony from Ajax.

Meanwhile, another man staying at Old Trafford will be Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

Asked about the right-back’s future, he added: “I see it as a start, we now have a good base. This is the minimum we have to bring.

“I was happy to see the turn and we have to keep the spirit and keep this winning mentality because you need it if you want to have a successful season.”
