Hugo Lloris might have already played the last Tottenham match of his career as it was confirmed he was out for the rest of the season.
The Frenchman has been injured and has missed the last two matches against Manchester United and Liverpool.
Ryan Mason confirmed on Friday that Lloris would miss their last four matches of the campaign.
“Hugo is out for the season,” he said. “Had the results back. Obviously disappointing. We feared that initially and now we’ve had the results.
“I can’t speak about next season but Hugo has got a very important role for us until the end of the season.”
It also means he might have ended his Spurs career on a complete horror show.
Lloris last played for Tottenham in the 6-1 pummelling at the hands of Newcastle two weeks where the goalkeeper conceded five after 21 minutes.
And he did not even finish the match, being taken off at half-time as a result of injury with Fraser Forster stepping in.
While the former France international still has a year left on his contract, there is a serious possibility that he could be allowed to leave this summer.
A goalkeeper is being sought in the transfer window as a priority after a stark decline in form from Lloris.
David Raya of Brentford is being eyed as a replacement, which could see the Tottenham No. 1 seek a new challenge after over a decade at the club.
It would be a sad ending for the Spurs legend, who has played more games in the Premier League for them than anyone else.
In total, Lloris has played 447 times for Tottenham having joined from Lyon in 2012.
He has been a faithful servant to the club ever since and has been remarked as one of the best goalkeepers in the division over the past decade.
However, his form has dipped over the last couple of seasons and Spurs are looking at other options to succeed him between the posts.
The north London club are currently without a permanent manager after Antonio Conte and then Cristian Stellini were sacked as head coaches.
Club chairman Daniel Levy is compiling a shortlist of potential options to take over with Ryan Mason in the hotseat at the moment.
Bayer Leverkusen boss and former Liverpool star Xabi Alonso is in the frame but distanced himself from the job this week.
Feyenoord coach Arne Slot and Sporting’s Ruben Amorim have been linked but the top choice remains Julian Nagelsmann, recently sacked from Bayern Munich.
