What happened on Wednesday?

The whirlwind of action on Wednesday left football fans breathless, with 18 Champions League matches unfolding simultaneously. The chaos was palpable, and this week’s fixtures did not disappoint.

Goals rained down, dramatic comebacks unfolded, and a jaw-dropping last-minute header from a goalkeeper left spectators in awe. It was a night where anything seemed possible.

As the dust settled, five out of the six Premier League teams successfully advanced to the round of 16. Newcastle, however, will have to navigate the play-offs after their draw with reigning champions PSG kept them from securing a direct spot.

Meanwhile, Arsenal continued their impressive form, extending their winning streak to eight by overcoming Kairat Almaty, even if the win wasn’t achieved in the most convincing fashion. This victory allowed them to secure the top position in their group.

Arsenal made it eight wins from eight by beating basement boys Kairat Almaty, albeit not very convincingly, to top the group.

Liverpool were convincing, however, which makes a change. They smashed six past a sorry Qarabag to finish third, while Manchester City and Tottenham secured comfortable wins over Galatasaray and Frankfurt, respectively.

And let’s not forget Chelsea, they produced a brilliant second-half fightback, led by Joao Pedro, to down Napoli in their own backyard and secure a spot in the automatics.

Elsewhere, 15-time winners, Real Madrid, were stunned by Benfica, with keeper Anatoliy Trubin scoring a 98th-minute header to keep the Portuguese side in the competition.

Now, here we are, ready for the draw.
