A Liverpool star has admited he would ‘get in trouble’ if he spoke on Michael Oliver’s controversial decision during the Merseyside derby against Everton at Goodison Park.

The 2-2 draw on Wednesday saw four red cards shown after the final whistle following a mass brawl between both teams started by Curtis Jones and Abdoulaye Doucoure, who were both dismissed by the referee.

Arne Slot and his assistant Sipke Hulshoff were also sent off for their part in the confrontation after the Dutchman was seen having an angry confrontation with Oliver.

However, after a heated atmosphere at Everton’s famous ground, the Reds’ right back Conor Bradley chose to remain silent on the match’s refereeing, saying he would ‘get myself in trouble’ if he spoke with Oliver.

‘I felt like I had to be careful, especially getting the yellow card,’ he said.

The Reds’ right back was booked in the extra-time of the first half and replaced by Curtis Jones in the 61st minute

‘I don’t think I deserved a yellow card, but I don’t think we should talk about the referee, I’ll probably get myself in trouble.

‘I was disappointed obviously to get the yellow card and just had to be good from thereon in and make sure I didn’t get sent off.’

Bradley was booked during the extra-time of the first half, just a minute before another Everton player, Abdoulaye Doucoure, was given his first yellow card.

The brawl started after James Tarkowski scored a stoppage-time equaliser to award his team a point against their city rivals.

Furthermore, after the final whistle, Doucoure was seen celebrating in front of the away fans, leading to Curtin Jones confronting him before stewards and police separated both sets of players.

However, prior to Tarkowski’s goal, Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite and Carlos Alcaraz clashed heads and referee Michael Oliver stopped the game at 93:43 for two minutes to allow the players to get their medical treatment.

When quizzed whether the stoppage gave Everton an advantage, Bradley said: ‘Yeah it did. I don’t even think they should have got the ball back after it, but that gave them one more chance.

‘The referee keeps playing and playing on and obviously they get that chance.

‘They probably shouldn’t have got that chance, but it’s just disappointing on our end to have the win there and not be able to get it.

‘But like I said, we have to bounce back on Sunday and hopefully get three points.’

Following his red card, Slot will miss the game against Wolves on Sunday, with assistant first-team coach John Heitinga likely to take over temporarily.

However, it seems that the Premier League intrigue is back again after the Reds lost two crucial points at Goodison Park, with Arsenal set to reduce the gap between the teams in the table.

Currently, Liverpool confidently sit in first place with 57 points.

‘Of course, it’s a good position,’ said Bradley.

‘We’ve just got to keep going, keep working hard every day and keep improving. We’ve just got to keep picking up the three points wherever we can.

‘We know there’s still a lot of games to go and (we have to) just keep our heads down and keep going.’
