Liverpool fans have expressed concern over the revelation that billionaire Elon Musk has an interest in buying the Premier League leaders.

Musk’s father Errol was quizzed about his son – who is the richest man in the world with an estimated wealth of worth an estimated £334billion – reportedly having interest in purchasing the club.

‘I can’t comment on that. They’ll raise the price,’ Errol said on Times Radio, while laughing.

‘Oh, yes. But that doesn’t mean he’s buying it,’ he replied. ‘He would like to yes, obviously. Anybody would want to – so would I!

When asked why Musk is specifically interested in Liverpool, his father revealed that his family have generational ties to the Merseyside city.

‘His grandmother was born in Liverpool, and we had relatives in Liverpool, and we were fortunate to know quite a lot of the Beatles because they grew up with some of my family. So, we are attached to Liverpool, you know,’ he told Times Radio.

Liverpool supporters reacted to the news with concern, given how Musk has faced mounting criticism over his use of his platform X, formerly Twitter, amid separate rows over domestic immigration policy and comments on foreign affairs. 

Musk has also emerged as Donald Trump’s right-hand man over the last few months, reportedly donating around $270million to the Republican party prior to their election victory to help his return to the White House.

The pair have been pictured at multiple events since Trump’s November election win, from celebrations at Trump’s Mar-A-Lago base in Florida to attending UFC fights and college football games together. 

‘Anybody that’s in favour of Elon Musk buying Liverpool can do one,’ one Liverpool fan wrote on X.

‘Any Liverpool fan wanting Elon Musk to buy isn’t a Liverpool fan,’ another added.

A third wrote: ‘I don’t believe there is a single genuine Liverpool fan that wants Elon Musk anywhere near the club.’

One fan express concerns that Musk would quickly strip away the club’s identity, should he ultimately succeed in a bid to take over the club.

‘Elon Musk ownership of Liverpool will be 100% worse than FSG’s. At the start, he’d sign a ton of players. Within 2-3 years, he’d wipe away the club’s identity, worse than INEOS at United,’ a fan concluded.

‘He’d still sign and spend money though, he likes to win. Pick your poison.’

Another simply wrote: ‘Keep Elon Musk far away from Liverpool Football Club.’

The 53-year-old billionaire is already the owner of Tesla, SpaceX and X (formerly Twitter) and reportedly is keen to expand his business empire further.

Musk has previously described his grandmother, who was born in 1923 and died in 2011 aged 87, as ‘an important part’ of his childhood, which included time spent on Merseyside as young child on holiday. 

‘My Nana was one of the poor working-class girls with no one to protect her who might have been abducted in present day Britain’, he said on X.

‘She was very strict, but also kind and I could always count on her. She grew up very poor in England during the Great Depression only to be bombed in WW2’, he said.

The South African-born Tesla tycoon once proudly declared he was ‘from a British/English not an Afrilkaner background’.

When Margaret Thatcher died in 2013, the entrepreneur paid tribute on Twitter – which he now owns and has rebranded as X – saying the late Prime Minister was ‘tough but sensible and fair like my English Nana’.

His grandmother, Cora Amelia Robinson, was one of five siblings born in the family’s modest terraced house in Mossley Hill, Liverpool in August 1923.

She grew up in pre-war poverty as part of a ‘proud, hard-working family’ before leaving the UK to settle in South Africa where she married Walter Musk in 1944.

The couple went on to have a son Errol who had three children of his own – Elon, brother Kimbal and sister Tosca. As well as the north west, Musk also has relatives elsewhere in England.

If Musk is serious about buying Liverpool FC, he will be making an offer to current owner John Henry – who also owns MLB team Boston Red Sox, and NHL side Pittsburgh Penguins.
