Man City told to sign unsung Real Madrid hero as Savinho replacement

Manchester City have been advised to keep the winger merry-go-round going if it means they end up with Rodrygo.

The Blues are making late changes on the wing, having loaned Jack Grealish to Everton for the new season.

talkSPORT has since reported that Savinho could depart to Tottenham, while in Spain it’s claimed that could pave the way for Pep Guardiola to stage a pursuit of Real Madrid’s Rodrygo.

Responding to such an eventuality, talkSPORT’s Ally McCoist said: “I think it would be a good move even for a lot of money.

“I think he’s an unsung hero in that team and I can see him being a success at City. He didn’t play much last season, that’s the only thing.”

McCoist isn’t alone in his view, in fact, it’s one shared in the Madrid dressing room.

Speaking in February after a Champions League win over Manchester City, Bellingham was asked about his Brazilian teammate.

“For me, he’s probably the most talented and most gifted player in the squad,” he said of Rodrygo.

“The things he can do with the football. We’ll be messing around, and he’ll flick the ball up somehow, and you’re thinking: ‘How’d he do that?’

“I’m twisting my ankles if I try that!”

Despite his talent, Rodrygo didn’t have the happiest of seasons last term, starting 38 out of his 50 games as he was dropped below Kylian Mbappe and Brahim Diaz in the pecking order up front.

Madrid’s season ended without a major trophy as they lost the Copa del Rey final to Barcelona, and then after a league Clasico two weeks later it was reported by MARCA that Rodrygo refused to play.

The outlet claimed he was annoyed at Bellingham and Mbappe surpassing him as the team’s golden boy, but Rodrygo denied such claims in a social media post.

“Thanks for all the messages and concerns, I’ll be back soon,” he wrote. “Stop making things up.”

Yet even with his comments, Rodrygo played just three out of seven matches at the Club World Cup, and talkSPORT reported in June that his camp had held talks with Arsenal over a move.

He managed to stay put for two more months, but that could well change should Guardiola come calling.

City are staying active in the closing weeks of the transfer window, and we earlier reported their interest in Paris Saint-Germain’s Gianluigi Donnarumma who looks set to depart the Champions League winners.

City have so far spent £138.4million in the summer window in an overhaul after a season without a major trophy.
