‘He makes my game easier’: Bruno Fernandes hails Christian Eriksen’s impact in Man United’s midfield after Erik ten Hag found a way of playing them together… but they’ll have to be at their best against Man City on Sunday!

  • Fernandes has praised Eriksen for the impact he has made at Old Trafford
  • Dane arrived on a free transfer over the summer and has impressed so far
  • Fernandes has also returned to something approaching his best form
  • United return to action when they face Manchester City in Sunday’s derby

Bruno Fernandes has praised Christian Eriksen for ‘making my game easier’ as he hailed the summer arrival’s impact at Manchester United.

The Dane has impressed since Erik ten Hag signed him on a free, carving out a role alongside Scott McTominay at the base of United’s midfield.

It was Eriksen who stormed through the Arsenal defence to tee up Marcus Rashford to seal United’s 3-1 win in their last Premier League outing.

Portuguese star Fernandes has also returned to something approaching his best form during the opening weeks of the season after a disappointing 2021-22 campaign.

And the pair have proved they can play together despite initial doubts that Ten Hag would be unable to accommodate them both.

He told United’s official website: ‘It’s really good to play with Christian. He is a player who can find passes, that can find pockets and obviously make my game easier because he can find me when I move in between the lines.

‘It’s something that is not easy to do. He’s a quality player and someone who has shown in the past that he has quality in the Premier League, the Italian league and even for his national team.

‘It is always a pleasure to play with players like him.’

United started the season in disastrous fashion with defeats to Brighton and Brentford, but they have subsequently won their next four Premier League fixtures, including against Liverpool and Arsenal.

Following a summer spend of £215million on the likes of Antony, Casemiro and Lisandro Martinez, Fernandes believes the team is now settling thanks to Ten Hag’s clear playing philosophy.

‘We know that he has these ideas, he’s strict on that, he’s straightforward, so that’s something good,’ Fernandes said.

‘It brings discipline to the team and we need that and even more when you play for a big team.

‘Discipline is something that you really need. I think everyone is following that and we have to be all together in the momentum when it’s good and when it’s bad. It’s about doing what he wants us to do.

‘I think everyone has settled in really well, obviously the new signings have been playing. When you play, it’s easier to get settled and you get time to know your team-mates, to know the environment, the atmosphere and everything.

‘That’s really important, but more than that, they have been really good on the pitch. They have made a good impact, a positive impact on the team and we are really happy for all of them.

‘Obviously everyone is expecting loads from them. We are there to support them and we will do it.

‘They have the same role as everyone else, but they will get time to connect with the team, connect with the fans, connect with the history of the club and connect with what we have to do.’

United’s progress will be put to the test on Sunday when they head to the Etihad Stadium to take on Manchester City in the derby.
