Manchester United are reported to have lowered their asking price for winger Alejandro Garnacho as Napoli and Chelsea continue to compete for his signature.

Clubs have been alerted to Garnacho’s potential availability this month amid concerns from United over their ability to stay within the Premier League’s financial rules. Napoli have launched a bid for the Argentina international as they seek to replace Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, but Chelsea are considering making a rival approach.

Reports have previously valued Garnacho at around £60m – a figure which has so far proven too high for Napoli – but it is now claimed that United have lowered their demands.

Gianluca Di Marzio states United are now looking for a total package worth €65m (£54.9m), while The Telegraph put United’s new asking price at somewhere closer to £50m.

Napoli are looking to do a deal for no more than €55m (£46.4m), but United’s compromise has given the Serie A side hope that an agreement will be reached somewhere in the middle of the two sides’ demands.

As for Chelsea, the Blues are expected to hold a fresh round of talks over Garnacho, with their scouting checks on the winger also including reports on his attitude amid concerns over his fit in Enzo Maresca’s side.

Fabrizio Romano adds Chelsea have made contact with both United and Garnacho’s representatives, who were in attendance at Stamford Bridge for the 3-1 win over Wolves, and they must now decide whether to join Napoli in submitting a formal bid.
