Moises Caicedo’s agent has hit out at Brighton for denying the midfielder his ‘dream’ move to Arsenal.

Arsenal showed strong interest in Caicedo and had two offers rejected for him, the second of which was worth £70m.

Having failed to sign Caicedo, Arsenal instead brought in Jorginho from Chelsea.

Caicedo, meanwhile, has returned to training with Brighton after his move to the Gunners failed to materialise.

Manuel Sierra, Caicedo’s agent, criticised Brighton for not allowing the move to go ahead and stated ‘this is an opportunity that may not be repeated in life.’

Sierra told Marca90Ec, via Olé: ‘The offers were received, you see what is on the table and Moises says that he wants to go forward, that it is the dream of his whole life. That it is an opportunity that may not be repeated in life.’

Caicedo was also linked with Chelsea but the 21-year-old will now remain at Brighton for at least the rest of the season as chairman Tony Bloom refused to let him leave.

A move to a major club could still occur in the summer, but Caicedo may well be frustrated with his current situation.

Caicedo had attempted to force through a move to Arsenal with a statement on Instagram.

The statement read: ‘I am grateful to Mr. Bloom [owner and chairman] and Brighton for giving me the chance to come to the Premier League and I feel I have always done my best for them. I always play football with a smile and with heart.

‘I am the youngest of 10 siblings from a poor upbringing in Santa Domingo in Ecuador. My dream always to be the most decorated player in the history of Ecuador.

‘I am proud to be able to bring in a record transfer fee for Brighton which would allow them to reinvest it and help the club continue to be successful.

‘The fans have taken me into their hearts and they will always be in my heart so I hope they can understand why I want to take up this magnificent opportunity.’

Commenting on the statement, Sierra said: ‘We helped draft the statement. In that statement he expresses his wish and his gratitude to the club because they gave him the chance to fulfil his dream of playing in the Premier League.

‘We don’t know what can happen tomorrow, maybe he trains and gets injured. We can’t know what’s going to happen.’

Caicedo was subsequently told to stay away from training and wasn’t involved in the FA Cup win against Liverpool, but he is now back in the fold.
