Michael Beale has rejected the chance to join Wolves leaving the Premier League strugglers still hunting for a new manager.

Wolves had made the Queens Park Rangers boss, who had taken charge of only 17 games, their first choice to succeed Bruno Lage, after being turned down by Julen Lopetegui last month.

Wolves were prepared to pay Beale’s £1million release clause and were confident of having him in place for Sunday’s clash with Leicester.

But after leading QPR to the top of the Championship with a 3-0 win over Cardiff on Tuesday, Beale decided to stay in west London.

He said: ‘If an offer comes in officially, you don’t have to take it. You have to weigh up everything. There are a lot of questions you need to get answers to.

‘Football is about feelings and relationships. We’ve built strong relationships here.

‘I felt over-ready for this job and I feel supremely confident in this job. It’s 100% a dream of mine to manage in the Premier League. That’s not a secret.

‘But it has to be the right opportunity, the right moment and the right club. And they’d have to give me a really clear understanding of where that club’s going.’

Beale, Steven Gerrard’s former assistant at both Rangers and Aston Villa, had emerged as a leading candidate after an impressive start to the season at QPR.

The Hoops have taken the Championship by storm this season, with Beale implementing a progressive and attractive style of football at the club after last season’s 11th place finish under Mark Warburton.

They’ve won 4 out of their last five games in what is Beale’s first season as a manager, with the highly-rated 42-year-old overseeing just 17 senior games as a first team boss.

He previously worked in the academies at both Liverpool and Chelsea, while he also had a six-month spell working as an assistant manager to Roger Ceni at Sao Paulo in Brazil.

Beale had been seen as an intriguing candidate for Wolves, given he would have been the first manager in more than five years to not be a client of super-agent Jorge Mendes.

The Englishman learnt Portuguese during his time in Brazil – a bonus for Wolves given that Portuguese is the first language for 11 members of their squad.

However, he remains at Loftus Road and will now aim to continue their fine start to the season as they host Wigan Athletic on Saturday.

Wolves are currently in the Premier League relegation zone in 18th place after a 2-1 defeat to Crystal Palace on Tuesday.

They are under the tutelage of caretaker boss Steve Davis, who has overseen a win and two defeats from his three games in charge.

Wolves have scored just five goals in 11 games so far this season and are the lowest scorers in the league.

They entertain Leicester City on Sunday at Molineux in a crunch clash at the bottom of the table.
