The Mumbai Indians are a franchise that knows how to win competitions. But, after failing to secure a captain in the SA20 Auction, there was some uncertainty over who would captain the team. MI Cape Town ended the speculation on Friday (November 2) by appointing Afghanistan all-rounder Rashid Khan as the team’s captain. Rashid was one of the franchise’s exceptional superstars, along with Sam Curran, Dewald Brevis, Kagiso Rabada, and Liam Livingstone. They also boosted their lineup by bringing Rassie van der Dussen, Odean Smith, Ryan Rickelton, and Duan Jansen to the Auction. It didn’t stop there, as the club signed express pacer Jofra Archer as a wild card player.
Rashid has previously captained Afghanistan and is regarded as a top leader, having amassed 486 T20 wickets and 1736 runs, solidifying himself as maybe the biggest name in T20 cricket. Meanwhile, Mumbai Indians veteran Kieron Pollard will captain the MI Emirates team in the ILT20. Rashid captained the Gujarat Titans in IPL 2022 in a couple of games when Hardik Pandya was not around.
