Rasmus Hojlund has confirmed he has no desire to leave Manchester United this summer in the face of mounting speculation on his future.

The under-fire Dane recently ended a run of 21 games without a goal to take his tally for the season to just three in 24 Premier League matches – a return which falls well short of expectations by his own admission.

United are expected to be in the market for a new striker this summer and there has been plenty of talk of a summer exit for Hojlund. There is believed to be interest in the 22-year-old from Serie A and rumours of a swap deal involving Napoli’s Victor Osimhen have been common.

Hojlund, for his part, has no desire to call time on his United career.

“I’m focused on the task with Ruben [Amorim], because that project is incredibly exciting, but Erik [ten Hag] was of course one of the reasons why I moved to Manchester United,” he told reporters on international duty. “He was doing something good and was a talented coach, but it didn’t work out, and that’s how it is.

“I’m still very happy to be at Manchester United. It’s the club I’ve always dreamed of playing for. And I’m really happy for Ruben. He’s a cool character and a cool person. “

While Hojlund’s form has been criticised by a number of former United stars, one ex-Red Devil received widespread praise for his attempts to help the young striker. Fellow Dane Peter Schmeichel was spotted consoling Hojlund after the recent 1-1 draw with Arsenal.

“Peter helps me occasionally and listens to how I’m feeling – both when things are going well and when things are going badly,” Hojlund said of his relationship with the legendary former goalkeeper.

“I wouldn’t call him a father figure, but he helps a lot because he’s been through it before. He knows what it means to play for Manchester United as a Dane. It’s nice to have someone to spar with on that front.”
