Real Madrid are reportedly considering a summer move for Kai Havertz as Chelsea look to cut their squad this summer.

Los Blancos president Florentino Perez and head coach Carlo Ancelotti sat down for crisis talks in the aftermath of their bruising 4-0 Champions League semi-final defeat to Manchester City, according to the Spanish outlet Marca.

The pair were said to have discussed future plans that included transfer incomings and have earmarked the Chelsea forward as ‘one of those strikers who could fit in.’

The news of their interest in Havertz represents the latest in a series of reports linking clubs to high-level talent at Stamford Bridge following the arrival of Mauricio Pochettino, whose remit – among other things – is to trim the fat of a bloated squad.

The German international arrived in 2020 for an eye-watering fee of £76m and could join the likes of Mason Mount, Mateo Kovacic and Ruben Loftus-Cheek on their way out of the club this summer.

Madrid themselves could see a major shake up in the attacking department this summer with star man Karim Benzema yet to agree to an extension to his contract which expires in the coming weeks.

The 35-year-old has reportedly been the subject of a huge £345m two-year deal from an unnamed club in Saudi Arabia.

Madrid ideally would like to see a player like Havertz come in and offer support to Benzema, but there is a chance that they will be looking to replace him if the Frenchman does decide to leave.

Mail Sport reported earlier this week that Madrid are also considering a move for departing Liverpool forward Roberto Firmino.

The Brazilian is waiting to see how he would fit in Madrid’s plans before he agrees on a move – though rivals Barcelona are also interested.

Bayer Leverkusen’s Moussa Diaby and Borussia Dortmund’s Karim Adeyemi are among other players linked with a move to the Santiago Bernabeu.

Last season’s Champions League winners go into La Liga’s final weekend with nothing left to play for this season – an oddity for Ancelotti’s men in recent years.

Bitter rivals Barcelona sit 11 points clear at the top and have already secured the title this term.

While neighbours Atletico Madrid lie just a point behind them in the standings ahead of a visit from Athletic Bilbao on Sunday afternoon.
