Dundee have been largely inconsistent since the turn of the year, recording three wins, three draws and four draws in their last 10 league-games. The inconsistency has allowed Queens Park to open up a seven-point lead at the top of the division. Prior to the draw against Patrick Thistle, Dundee defeated Cove Rangers 2-0 at Balmoral Stadium, thanks to Lyall Cameron’s opening goal on the stroke of half-time and Lee Ashcroft’s 59th-minute effort. It was the Dark Blues’ 13th second tier victory of the season. Having been relegated after finishing rock-bottom of the Scottish Premiership last season, Dundee side are aiming to bounce straight back into the top tier under the stewardship of Gary Bowyer.
Ayr, on the other hand, wouldn’t have expected to be in contention for promotion to the top division this season, having narrowly avoided relegation in each of the previous two seasons. Last Saturday, the Honest Men put two goals past Hamilton without reply, courtesy of Ben Dempsey’s 12th-minute penalty-kick and Sam Ashford’s 27th-minute strike. It was their 13th league-win of the campaign. Lee Bullen’s men are aiming to reach the top tier of the Scottish football for the first time in 45 years, having been relegated at the end of 1977-78 season.

Probable Lineups
Dundee forward Cillian Sheridan could be sidelined for the rest of the season after the 34-year-old ruptured his Achillies tendon. Robinson might lead the line, with Hannant and McMullan in support. As for Ayr, Bullen is unlikely to make too many alterations to the side that secured three points against Hamilton last Saturday. Akinyemi could be the target-man up front, with Ashford and O’Connor occupying the flanks.
Dundee Probable Lineup: Legzdins, Mulligan, Ashcroft, Sweeney, Marshall, Cameron, McGhee, Williamson, McMullan, Robinson, Hannant
Ayr United Probable Lineup: Albinson, McAllister, Musonda, McGinty, Reading, Ashford, Dempsey, Murdoch, McAlear, O’Connor, Akinyemi
