Texans HC DeMeco Ryans, who worked in San Francisco for 6 years, admits being ‘distraught’ after 49ers’ loss in Super Bowl

The result of the Super Bowl certainly made a lot of San Francisco 49ers fans upset. However, that might not have been inclusive of Houston Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans. Ryans expected that the Niners would win the Super Bowl by beating the Chiefs. However, that did not happen. The Chiefs stole the show with a dramatic comeback and won the Championship for the consecutive time.

The SB game was a roller coaster ride between the two. It extended to the OT and the Chiefs made it with a late touchdown drive. An inspirational Patrick Mahomes linking up with Mecole Hardman sealed it for the Chiefs.

Ryans failed to believe the moment that was taking place on the gridiron. He was rooting for the 49ers in the game. Speaking with NBC Bay Area, the head coach said:

I literally fell on the floor when [the Chiefs] scored that touchdown at the end of the game. I was in it. I felt, of course, like I was still there, a part of it.

DeMeco Ryans said

Ryans faced a similar fate as the millions of Niners fans who failed to believe their favourite team had lost the game. Not only them but also the players had a similar expression. They also said that they were unaware of the new OT rules.

DeMeco Ryans was rooting for Kyle Shanahan

Sharing his heartbreak story, Ryans claimed he was supporting Kyle Shanahan in the game. He wanted the Niners’ HC to lift the trophy. However, that did not happen. The Chiefs prevailed in an extremely thrilling encounter.

Here is what Ryans had to say:

I wanted so badly to see Kyle and those guys come away with a Super Bowl win, because I know the work that Kyle puts in and he deserves it. It was unfortunate to see them come up short and it really hurt me like I was there and still a part of it.

Ryans did a great job last season as he took the Texans to the Divisional round in the AFC. After four years, the team managed to make a postseason run. In the next season, they will be one of the dark horses in the league.
