Bayern Munich are considering a move for Mason Mount, with new boss Thomas Tuchel eager to reunite with the Chelsea midfielder, according to reports.

The German giants, who sensationally replaced sacked boss Julian Nagelsmann with former Blues head coach Tuchel last week, are already planning their moves for the summer window and are reportedly keen on the England international.

Mount was a key player for Tuchel during his time at Stamford Bridge, winning the Champions League with the German boss in 2021.

The 24-year-old’s long-term future in west London has been called into question this year after lengthy contract negotiations between club and player.

Sportsmail revealed in November that Mount, who remains locked in contract talks at Chelsea, rejected a £200,000-a-week deal at Stamford Bridge in the hope of landing a salary similar to the £300-a-week wage held by England team-mate Raheem Sterling, following his summer move from Manchester City.

Both parties have yet to agree on a deal and, with Mount’s current contract set to expire next summer, an exit is becoming increasingly likely.

According to The Times, Bayern are hoping to take advantage of the contract impasse and lure Mount on a cut-price deal, despite Chelsea’s plan to fetch at least £50million from the Englishman.

The Blues’ reported loss of £121m last campaign – which followed a loss of £153.4m the season before – will likely force Chelsea chairman Todd Boehly to sell players in a bid to keep in line with Financial Fair Play regulations.

Boehly, despite initiating talks with Mount last summer in the hope of keeping him at Stamford Bridge, may feel obliged to offload the playmaker having bolstered Graham Potter’s squad with a glut of midfield options.

The American co-owner has splashed well over £500m on new additions during his two transfer windows at the club, luring British record arrival Enzo Fernandez, £88m man Myhkailo Mudryk and £35m star Benoit Badiashile in January alone.

Besides Bayern, Liverpool have expressed an interest in Mount, eager to rebuild Jurgen Klopp’s ageing midfield in the summer window, while Manchester United are also believed to be keen on the Chelsea star.

The Bundesliga champions, who have won the German top flight in each of the last 10 seasons, are keen to poach Chelsea’s assistant coach Anthony Barry as well.

Sportsmail revealed on Tuesday that Barry has informed the Blues he wants to follow Tuchel to Germany – and the clubs are now haggling over compensation ahead of a potential deal.

Barry worked under Tuchel at Stamford Bridge but stayed at the club when Potter took over last September.
