Vince McMahon resigned as WWE Chairman and CEO last summer after an investigation into a hush money controversy and sexual misconduct charges. McMahon remained the company’s controlling shareholder after resigning.
He utilized that advantage earlier this month to re-appoint himself to the WWE Board of Directors and re-establish himself as the company’s Executive Chairman. He did so despite the clear dangers that the company and its stockholders face as a result of the claims against him, as well as heightened federal government scrutiny of WWE’s financial statements.
One of these ongoing scandals is a rape claim leveled by Rita Chatterton, a former WWE referee. McMahon allegedly raped her in the back of a limousine in 1986. According to a new Wall Street Journal article, McMahon has reached a multi-million dollar litigation settlement with her, “Vince McMahon, the executive chairman of World Wrestling Entertainment Inc., has agreed to a multimillion-dollar legal settlement with a former wrestling referee who accused him of raping her in 1986, according to people familiar with the agreement.”

Vince McMahon denying all the charges
McMahon dismisses the rape accusation, and his lawyer claims the agreement was struck to avoid more legal fees. According to the Wall Street Journal, Vince was reportedly in talks with the attorney for a former spa manager in California who accused McMahon of sexual assault in 2011. The WSJ noted in today’s article that they “couldn’t ascertain the status of the discussions with the ex-spa manager.” McMahon will almost certainly need to settle that litigation as well before he can conclude an agreement to sell WWE.
After taking over the WWE, Triple H also struck two words off Vince McMahon’s list of forbidden phrases
Following his appointment as WWE creative director, Triple H has taken two terms off of Vince McMahon’s list of forbidden phrases. Following the resignation of former chairman McMahon, his father-in-law, after 40 years in the position, the legendary wrestler stepped into the position. By removing the terms that the previous chairman had blacklisted, Triple H has already begun making adjustments to the wrestling company in his new role. The terms on the prohibited list are those that competitors, pundits, and broadcasters are not permitted to use while events are being aired.
But once the creative director withdrew them from the list after his hiring, two of these words—”wrestler” and “wrestling”—have now been approved. Even though Triple H quickly undid some of McMahon’s efforts, he had nothing but love for the former boss, saying that the 76-year-old has left a “massive” void to be filled.
