WWE Hall of Famer Mick Foley has made the significant decision to sever his ties with the wrestling giant, expressing his dismay over Donald Trump’s recent controversial remarks. The catalyst for Foley’s decision was Trump’s comments regarding the tragic murder of Hollywood icon Rob Reiner, which the former president attributed to Reiner’s so-called ‘Trump Derangement Syndrome.’
In a post on Truth Social, Trump reiterated his stance in a manner that many found inflammatory. His comments were met with widespread condemnation from both sides of the political aisle, with celebrities and Republicans alike labeling the remarks as ‘disgusting and vile.’
Foley, a revered figure in the wrestling world, didn’t hold back in his response. He shared his thoughts publicly, expressing his discomfort with WWE’s ongoing association with Trump. “For months, I’ve been troubled by WWE’s close ties to Donald Trump, especially considering his administration’s harsh policies against immigrants and others he perceives as outsiders,” Foley stated.
The wrestling legend continued, “The President’s heartless comments following Rob Reiner’s tragic death have been the final straw. I cannot in good conscience continue to be associated with a company that supports someone who appears so devoid of empathy while leading our nation towards authoritarianism. I’ve informed WWE’s talent relations that I will not participate in any company events as long as Trump remains in office.”
‘I no longer wish to represent a company that coddles a man so seemingly void of compassion as he marches our country towards autocracy. Last night, I informed @WWE talent relations that I would not be making any appearances for the company as long as this man remains in office.

‘Additionally, I will not be signing a new Legends deal when my current one expires in June. I love WWE, will always treasure my time with them, and I am deeply appreciative for all the opportunities they afforded me.
‘But, in the words of Popeye the sailor, ‘I stands all I can stands, and I can’t stands no more.’
Foley, who was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2013, has been a fixture of the company for decades, portraying characters Mankind, Cactus Jack and Dude Love.
However, he has also been increasingly vocal about his political stances, frequently clashing with the wrestling giant’s known support for the Trump administration.
Foley was a contributor to Barack Obama’s campaign for US presidency back in 2008 and also endorsed Kamala Harris for the 2024 presidential election.
Just recently, Foley took to Instagram to heap praise on musician Jack White, who has been a longstanding Trump critic, over his remarks against the president.
White had shared a picture of Trump’s comments on Reiner and labelled the president as ‘disgusting, vile, egomaniac, loser, child’.
Sharing White’s post, Foley said: ‘What @officialjackwhite said here is spot on.

‘How any of my @wwe colleagues can stand by, let alone stand next to this man is beyond me’.
Foley’s decision comes in response to a series of attacks launched by President Trump against Reiner just hours after the director and his wife were found dead.
‘Well, I wasn’t a fan of his at all. He was a deranged person. As far as Trump was concerned,’ Trump told a reporter in the Oval Office on Monday.
‘I think he hurt himself, career-wise, he became like a deranged person, [with] Trump derangement syndrome. So I was not a fan of Rob Reiner at all, in any way shape or form. I thought he was very bad for our country.’
Prior to that, Trump had wrote that Reiner, a ‘once very talented movie director and comedy star,’ passed away, ‘reportedly due to the anger he caused others through his massive, unyielding, and incurable affliction with a mind crippling disease’ known as TDS – or Trump Derangement Syndrome. The term is used by conservatives to describe disdain for the Republican President.
Trump’s post continued: ‘He was known to have driven people CRAZY by his raging obsession of President Donald J Trump, with his obvious paranoia reaching new heights as the Trump Administration surpassed all goals and expectations of greatness.’
The vicious statement about the couple’s death highlighted Trump’s tendency to attack public figures following their passing. The Republican has also ridiculed the late Senator John McCain and General Colin Powell after they died.
Reiner famously supported liberal causes and Democratic candidates, even downplaying concerns over Joe Biden’s age. ‘Look, he’s old!’ the 78-year-old director explained in a February 2024 interview before Biden dropped out.
Reiner also loudly opposed Trump, calling him ‘mentally unfit’ and repeatedly claiming the Republican is an autocrat in interviews over the years.
‘Donald Trump is the single most unqualified human being to ever assume the presidency of the United States,’ Reiner told Variety in a 2017 interview.
The couple’s son Nick, 32, is in custody and has been booked for murder after Reiner and Michele were found knifed to death.
They allegedly had their throats slit after a heated argument with a relative, understood to be Nick, turned deadly at their $13.5 million Los Angeles mansion on Sunday afternoon.
Reiner made many of the best-known movies of the 1980s and 1990s, including Stand By Me and The Princess Bride, legal thriller A Few Good Men, and romantic comedy When Harry Met Sally.
