3 killed in random shooting in Yakima, Washington; suspect dead: Police

Yakima, Washington Shooting

Authorities confirmed that a guy who is accused of killing three people by shooting them at a Circle K gas station and convenience store in Yakima, Washington, early on Tuesday has been found dead after an hours-long manhunt.

Yakima Police Chief Matthew Murray told reporters Tuesday afternoon that the suspect passed away from what seemed to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound while being detained.

Murray stated, “We think with quite considerable confidence that this is the individual that was involved in the incident this morning.

At about 3:30 in the morning local time, the gunshot at the Circle K was reported. The shooter allegedly shot into a car and then stole it before crossing the street to an ampm convenience shop, according to Murray.

It is possible the gunman shot the person in the car as he stole it, the chief said. If so, the driver would be the fourth shooting victim.

Who Is The Suspect?

Police identified the suspect as 21-year-old Jarid Haddock of Yakima County. He allegedly fled in a car believed to be a gray or silver Chrysler 200, the chief said.

Around 2:15 p.m. local time, police received a 911 call from a woman who said she had just lent her phone to the suspect and allegedly overheard him make incriminating statements while talking to his mother, including “I killed those people,” Murray said.

When she received her phone back, the woman dialed 911 and was able to provide authorities with the location of the perpetrator, according to Murray.

“I heard that phone call. It’s quite terrifying, “Murray remarked. She was really brave to get us there, so I must truly thank her one more.

Responding cops swiftly found the offender, who was hurt by an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, officials said. The suspect, who was being treated by first responders but subsequently declared dead, was not the target of any shots from the officers, according to Murray.

When he was discovered, the suspect had “a significant amount of ammo and a weapon,” Murray said.

Murray called the Circle K shooting an apparently random attack. The gunman “just walked in and started shooting,” he said.

The motive is not known, he said.

“We may never know,” Murray said.
