The Chicago Police Department reported that 13 of its officers were inadvertently exposed to tear gas during an operation involving federal agents.
Officers were called to the scene following a car accident that involved federal officials. Upon arriving, they documented the incident and additional supervisors were dispatched due to the federal involvement.
A representative from the Department of Homeland Security explained that the situation stemmed from a pursuit. Federal agents were conducting a targeted immigration enforcement operation when a suspect, who had entered the U.S. unlawfully, allegedly collided with a Border Patrol vehicle and attempted to flee.
