Oswego, IL Chick-fil-A: Darryl Lee Jr., 19, charged with murder in stabbing, attack at restaurant on Route 34 held in custody

An individual suspected of a fatal stabbing incident at a Chick-Fil-A in Oswego is set to remain in detention following his court appearance on Friday.

Authorities reported that Darryl Lee Jr., a 19-year-old from Kankakee, allegedly forced his way into the eatery located on the 2700 block of Route 34 early Wednesday morning. During the intrusion, he reportedly attacked a delivery driver, 52-year-old Tracey Land from Bridgeview, with both a hammer and a knife, resulting in Land’s death.

Subsequently, a maintenance worker was also injured by stabbing but managed to survive. This worker was able to restrain the suspect until law enforcement officials arrived, according to police reports.

Lee Jr. is now confronted with 11 felony charges, one of which includes first-degree murder.

The Kendall County State’s Attorney’s office announced that Lee Jr. is scheduled to appear in court again next Thursday.

The surviving victim’s mother was nearby during the second attack and tried to help. She spoke to ABC7 by phone anonymously on Wednesday.

“There were hitting each other,” she said. “The guy got my son on the floor, so I got out of the car and I was trying to get him away from my son so he couldn’t hit my son anymore.”

When they arrived, police say a they found her son pinning the attacker down and they were able to take him into custody.

The Kendall County Major Crimes Task Force was activated to assist with the investigation and processing of the scene.
