BAKER COUNTY, Fla. — A double shooting has been reported in Baker County Thursday night.
The shooting happened at South Boulevard and 9th Street in Macclenny, according to the Baker County Sheriff’s Office.
Two people were taken to the hospital with gunshot wounds. Undersheriff Randy Crews said one is a minor and the other is an adult.
Crews said one victim was shot in the leg, while the other is considered in life-threatening condition.
The sheriff’s office confirmed two individuals have been detained and two others are being sought for questioning. Investigators believe multiple shooters and multiple weapons were involved.
Neighbors reported hearing what sounded like fireworks before realizing it was gunfire, followed by a heavy police presence and a medical helicopter landing nearby.
Brian Wallstedt, a longtime Baker County resident, told First Coast News he is troubled by the recent violence.
“Quit this crap,” he said. “Quit this crap. Try to work it out. Let’s try to become a big community again without all this gun violence and shootings that are happening way too often.”
The area around South Boulevard and 9th Street remained closed for several hours following the shooting.
An investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
