According to the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), incidents related to overheating have caused property damage exceeding $380,000.
WASHINGTON — A recall has been issued for over 200,000 portable power bank chargers following incidents of overheating that have led to fires, injuries, and significant property damage.
The retailer, INIU, initiated the recall after receiving at least 15 reports of the power banks overheating. Among these, 11 incidents involved the devices catching fire, while three resulted in minor burn injuries. The CPSC reports that the total property damage linked to these incidents is over $380,000.
The recall specifically targets the INIU 10,000mAh portable power bank, model BI-B41.
These chargers were available for purchase on Amazon.com between August 2021 and April 2022, retailing at approximately $18.
Recalled power bank details:
- Black or blue case
- INIU logo and paw-print LED on front of power bank
- Serial numbers: 000G21, 000H21, 000I21 and 000L21, which can be found on the back and bottom of the power bank

The recall urges customers to immediately stop using the product and not to throw it away in the regular trash because lithium-ion batteries can catch fire. These specific types of batteries need to be disposed of in a specific way, which can vary by state, county and city. Contact your local municipal household hazardous waste collection center to properly get rid of the power bank.
