The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said a suspect was taken into custody less than 24 hours after a deadly shooting on the city’s Southside.
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A 24-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of a man in Jacksonville’s Southside area, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.
Police said officers were called to the 3400 block of Saland Way on the evening of Tuesday, Sept. 1, after receiving a report of a person who had been shot. When officers arrived, they found a man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to his torso. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities later identified the victim as 47-year-old Charles Newsome.
Investigators identified Saveon Antonitis West, 24, as a possible suspect and quickly launched a search for him, the sheriff’s office said. West was located and detained within 24 hours of the shooting.
An arrest warrant for murder was obtained for West, who is currently held at the Duval County Jail.
