CHICAGO (WLS) — Three Chicago high school students were shot Friday afternoon on the Near West Side, Chicago police said.

All three victims are recovering at Stroger Hospital. The mother of 16-year-old Cameron King, who was undergoing surgery, told he was walking with classmates after school when out of nowhere someone he doesn’t know opened fire right across from his Bulls College Prep campus.

A 16-year-old boy, 15-year-old girl and 15-year-old boy were standing on the sidewalk in the 200-block of South Hoyne Avenue about 2:45 p.m., when an unknown suspect fired multiple rounds in their direction, police said.

The 16-year-old boy, King, was shot in the lower back, and taken to Stroger Hospital in serious condition, police said.

The girl was shot in the leg, and taken to Stroger in good condition.

I prayed that my son was okay.

The younger boy was shot in the leg, and took himself to Stroger, where he is in good condition, police said.

The shooting was near several schools, including Bulls College Prep High School. The school later confirmed the victims are students at the school.

Chopper 7 was over the scene just after 4 p.m., and there was a police presence in the area.

Crime tape crisscrossed the entire block of Hoyne Avenue between Adams and Jackson where evidence markers litter the sidewalk, and where 16-year-old King almost lost his life during a shooting where his mother, Letrina Flowers, believes he wasn’t the intended target.

“It was a group ahead of them, the group that he was in, and a group behind them,” Flowers said. “My first thoughts were, ‘Where are you all? I’m on my way.’ Grabbed my phone, get in my car, and I’m just driving, like, let me figure out where I’m going, and I prayed that my son was okay.”

The shooting happened a little more than an hour after classes let out at Bulls College Prep.

King and two of his 15-year-old classmates were injured in the shooting.

After being shot, King’s mother said he ran for his life before collapsing around the corner on Gladys.

All three victims were taken to Stroger for treatment, where their parents’ faith overcame their fears.

“I’ve had the chance to pray with both of their parents,” Flowers said. “Yes, this is a challenge, but if He brings you to it, He can bring you through it.”

No one is in custody, and police did not immediately provide any suspect information. Area Three detectives are investigating.

“We are heartbroken to confirm that three of our Bulls College Prep students were injured in a shooting that occurred off campus, over an hour after dismissal today. The students are currently receiving medical attention at a nearby hospital. We are in close contact with their families and are doing everything we can to provide them with our full support during this difficult time. We are working closely with local authorities as they investigate the incident. When students return on Monday, we will have additional social-emotional supports available for students and staff, including access to grief and crisis response professionals,” school officials said in a statement.
