The U.S. Department of Justice had sought an immediate halt to the enforcement of a decision made by U.S. District Judge April Perry. Last week, the 7th Circuit Court had imposed a temporary restraining order (TRO) regarding National Guard deployments in Illinois.

This restraining order prevents federal troops from being stationed in Illinois, specifically blocking plans to deploy National Guard members to the Broadview ICE facility to support federal operations.

Following the denial of the appeal, the restraining order remains in effect, maintaining the current limitation on troop deployment.

Last week, the Guard arrived at the Broadview immigration facility on Thursday. Troops could be seen walking around and lingering near the facility.

The Trump administration has argued that the bolstered military presence is needed to protect federal property and employees. But the judge said the government’s claims about an out-of-control public on the brink of rebellion were not credible.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
