Trump's framed mug shot hangs outside Oval Office

(The Hill) — A framed image of President Donald Trump’s mug shot from when he was indicted in Georgia in 2023 is hanging outside the Oval Office in the latest bit of redecorating since he moved back in.

Eagle-eyed observers noticed the frame in the hallway outside the Oval Office during a meeting Trump had Thursday with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

White House deputy chief of staff Dan Scavino posted a video Friday showing the frame up close and revealing it is the front page of the New York Post from Aug. 25, 2023, which was taken up entirely by Trump’s mug shot.

“Welcome to the beautiful Oval Office,” Scavino posted on social platform X, with a video showing the framed mug shot and the view of the Oval Office from the hallway.

Trump had his mug shot taken when he surrendered at the Fulton County Jail in Georgia after he was charged in connection with his attempts to overturn 2020 election laws in the state.

Trump and his campaign went on to rapidly monetize the mug shot, using it in fundraising emails, putting it on merchandise and later putting it on digital trading cards. The president and his supporters have leaned into the mug shot, viewing it as a symbol of his outsider status and as emblematic of his claims that he was politically targeted.

The president was indicted four times in 2023. Only one of those indictments ended up at trial, and Trump was found guilty in New York last May on 34 counts of falsifying business records in a case revolving around a $130,000 payment to porn actor Stormy Daniels.
