The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said it’s expanding its Traffic Enforcement Unit in 2025 in an effort to make roadways safer.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A man is facing street racing-related charges for the fifth time in two years, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

Officers arrested Julio Cesar Rodriquez, 28, during an “unannounced visit” to an unpermitted car meetup he organized at a Riverside parking lot on Dec. 28, according to police. More than 40 vehicles were at the meetup.

Police said this arrest wasn’t Rodriquez’s first.

“We’ve arrested him multiple times over the past two years for street racing-related charges,” JSO said in a Facebook post. “But he still doesn’t seem to get the drift.”

Police said Rodriquez was involved in the organizing of a “large-scale street takeover” in June where a man was severely injured by a driver doing doughnuts.

First-time offenses for street racing result in a misdemeanor arrest, a$500 to $2,000 fine and a one-year license suspension, according to JSO.

“Maybe these latest felony charges will finally hit the brakes on his illegal activities,” JSO said about Rodriquez’s arrest.

Police warned that street racing and takeovers are illegal in Florida, and these charges can also apply to spectators.

“JSO will arrest participants, impound vehicles, and enforce strong penalties to make our roads safe,” the post read.

JSO said it’s expanding its Traffic Enforcement Unit in 2025.
