MOODY, Ala. (TRIBUNE) — Moody Junior High School was briefly placed on a soft lockdown Wednesday morning after school staff intercepted a note containing a threat of violence toward the campus, according to school officials.

Administrators said the note was passed between two students and was quickly turned over to staff. The student accused of making the threat was immediately removed from class, isolated from others, and searched along with their locker and belongings.

The Moody Police Department responded with additional officers to assist the school resource officer and administration. No weapons were found, and officials said at no time were students or staff in danger.

Once police and staff determined there was no immediate threat, the lockdown was lifted and classes resumed as normal.

“We appreciate the quick response and involvement of the Moody Police Department and our superintendent, Mr. St. John, for ensuring that this situation was handled promptly and correctly,” the school said in a statement.

The student was taken into custody, and the case has been turned over to Moody Police for further investigation. The student will also face disciplinary action in accordance with the St. Clair County Schools Code of Conduct, school officials said.
