Phoenix Ikner’s mother spoke to ABC News on Friday.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla — The mother of the 20-year-old accused of shooting eight people, two of whom died, at Florida State University Friday, has spoken to ABC News.

Phoenix Ikner, who was born Christian Gunnar Eriksen, was originally identified by police as the son of Leon County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Jessica Ikner.

However, court records reveal Ikner’s biological mother is Anne-Mari Eriksen, and Jessica Ikner is his stepmother.

Eriksen told ABC News that she could not discuss the incident “without crying.”

“When I heard what had happened, I was frantic, thought he might be the one hurt, and then when I found out it was him I just collapsed at work,” Eriksen said.

Court records show a tumultuous history of custody disagreements between Eriksen and Ikner’s father.

Phoenix Ikner changed his name in 2020 to take on his father’s last name.
