Dunedin nurse arrested for hitting patients, Pinellas deputies say

The 35-year-old nurse allegedly hit two disabled patients multiple times, according to detectives.

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — An employee at a Dunedin nursing home was arrested after allegedly hitting two residents.

On Dec. 23, detectives started an investigation after receiving a report that two adult male residents were battered at Lake Haven Nursing and Rehabilitation Facility. 

Pinellas County deputies said 35-year-old Certified Nursing Assistant Nicholas Brown hit the victims who are both non verbal and unable to communication.

One of the victims suffers from a traumatic brain injury and the other is a quadriplegic with intellectual disabilities, according to a news release. The incidents were witnessed by another employee who said Brown struck the victims multiple times on the legs, side and buttocks.

The two men were evaluated and treated for non-life-threatening injuries. 

Detectives arrested Brown on Tuesday and charged him with two counts of abuse or neglect of an aged or disabled person. 

Brown was fired from his job at the nursing home and booked into the county jail.
