Amtrak train hit, killed pedestrian on Jacksonville's Westside, JFRD said

All eastbound lanes of Timuquana Road near Roosevelt Road were closed Wednesday night due to the crash.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A pedestrian has died after they were struck by an Amtrak train on the Westside of Jacksonville Wednesday night, the Jacksonville Fire & Rescue Department has confirmed. 

The crash happened on Timuquana Road near the intersection with Roosevelt Boulevard at about 7:18 p.m., Amtrak confirmed.

Amtrak says the train involved was Amtrak Train 52, which was traveling from Sanford, Florida, to Lorton, Virginia. There were no injuries to the 433 passengers or the crew onboard. 

As of 7:50 p.m., the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said all eastbound lanes of Timuquana Road near Roosevelt were closed due to an “accident with injuries.” They did not have a timetable for when the lanes would reopen.

Just before 9 p.m., a passenger on the train told First Coast News they were told they would be stuck on the train for three more hours.
