A woman has shared her ‘nightmare’ experience of discovering a ‘creepy’ handwritten note from a ‘secret admirer’ left on her doorstep.

The woman, from Sacramento, California, U.S., took anonymously to Reddit in February to detail the paranoia she’d endured after stumbling across the letter outside of her home in 2022.

Uploading a photo of the note and an accompanying message from her account, u/Quirky-Equivalent578, to the subreddit, r/FoundPaper, the woman claimed the message had sent her into a ‘paranoid spiral.’

The note itself in the post read: ‘Greeting Beautiful Lady. I just wanted to say that I think you’re an extremely beautiful red-haired woman – yes, you’re absolutely beautiful, just wanted to share that…’

The unidentified messenger added: ‘Please for me for sharing my thoughts… Your secret admirer.’

The woman, who revealed she moved away from the area shortly after receiving the letter, wrote: ‘It sent me into a paranoid spiral for months thinking I was being watched by someone and not knowing who it was or when they were watching me.’

Hundreds of Redditors flocked to the comments to share their thoughts on the ‘terrifying’ scenario, with many prompted to decode the letter in a bid to work out the identity of the mystery admirer.

One person wrote: ‘What a creeper. I hope things are better for you nowadays. This would have messed me up for sure.’

In response, the woman explained she had installed door jammer locks on every door, kept her blinds drawn ’24/7′ and barricaded herself indoors for ‘at least two weeks after.’

Once she had gathered courage to finally leave her apartment, she admitted she ‘felt like Jesse from Breaking Bad’ – a character from the hit Netflix series who regularly exhibited drug-induced paranoia.

The woman added: ‘Every person became a suspect and I felt eyes on me constantly. To be constantly on guard like I could be accosted at any moment… it was a true nightmare.

‘While I would have loved to believe I was overreacting and give said person the benefit of the doubt, I have been stalked and assaulted in the past by strange men so I felt like I couldn’t leave it to chance.’

Dozens of other commenters joined in on the discussion, as one wrote: ‘This penmanship just screams creepy old man.’

Another said, ‘The way it’s worded sounds like an obsession, so it understandably freaked you out. As an aside, I’m intrigued by their penmanship.’

A third Redditor suggested, ‘So…. time for a ring camera,’ while a fourth said, ‘I would move! IMMEDIATELY! Or get a security system.’

Another remarked, ‘Ew creepy,’ while another quizzed, ‘Do men not realize that this is terrifying, not flattering?’

However, one person speculated that the person behind the letter could have been female, explaining: ‘This is a woman’s handwriting. A left handed woman.

‘No man is writing their Bs like that. My guess is a woman in late 30s to late 40s.’

Another, observing the admirer’s handwriting, wrote: ‘For anyone into graphology, there’s a LOT to unpack there.’

Meanwhile, a man who dressed as Spiderman to leave unwanted notes and parcels at a 24-year-old woman’s door has confessed to a months-long campaign of harassment.

Mason Rogers began stalking his victim in February 2024, leaving a limited edition Valentine’s Day figurine outside her home.

The 22-year-old of Marsden Road, Eastbourne, continued to torment the woman by posting a second package through her letterbox in the early hours of August 26, 2023.
