HOLLYWOOD — Class is back in session at “Abbott Elementary.” The hit ABC sitcom returns for its fifth season, and it sounds like the actors believe this new season is worthy of the honor roll.
“Abbott Elementary” creator, writer and star Quinta Brunson is looking forward to what’s in store this season.
“I think the audience is going to have a ball. It’s coming in strong. The first episode is very sweet,” Brunson said.
Her co-stars agree.
“We’ve done probably seven table reads of the first seven episodes, and they’re the seven best episodes we’ve ever done,” Chris Perfetti, who plays Jacob Hill on the show, said. “It feels like, not a different show, but, you know, something we’ve never done before. So, I dare say it will be our best season yet.”
“I enjoy playing Barbara Howard so much, and to be at this point at this time in my life, in my career, look at all the years we’ve known each other, and I’m doing some of the best work ever,” Sheryl Lee Ralph said. “And I’m so blessed, grateful and thank you, that I know Quinta’s going to carry on making what? Some of the best T.V. ever!”
Tyler James Williams, who plays Gregory Eddie, notes his co-worker, William Stanford Davis who plays Mr. Johnson, came in as guest star with a few lines in the pilot — and never left!
“Quinta was brilliant and wrote all these roles great, but that was one that got built off of his (Davis’) performance,” Williams said. “And I think, it’s something that every actor everywhere can learn from: Do the best with what you got. You never know!”
“Abbott Elementary” airs Wednesdays on ABC.
